About The Artist..
Marilyn Whinham is a self-taught Craftswoman with some
28 years experience of the industry as both retailer and manufacturer of hand-made goods. A combination of her earlier
honed skills in floral art and tapestry - along with her interest of painted glass led a natural progression toward
the concept of specialised hand decorated glassware over 10 years ago, and evolves today as the focal point of her efforts with the Glasspirations range for 2007.
Unique?
Marilyn's enviable flair for style and colour, along
with her imaginative use of innovative materials, add a 'twist' of speciality to her work that sets it apart from the usual
'simply painted' glassware that is widely available. Unlike the 'minimilastic' style of painted glass so commonly found,
Marilyn's work is often lavishly decorated by working in multiple stages, over many hours, to create stunning effects of
texture, blends of colour, and overall design.
Materials
Just some of the materials currently in use (over and above traditional glass paints) include cabochons, beaded motif's, decorative yarns,
metallic thread, sequins/beads, silver/gold leaf, rose quartz chips, pearls and skeleton leaves. However, this is a non-exhaustive, rapidly expanding list
as new materials are sourced and incorporated. Development itself is an ongoing process, but often the source of inspiration that lends a 'freshness' to much
of Marilyn's work.
One-off designs
By their very nature, all handmade goods vary, with no two items being alike. Marilyn's work demonstrates
this clearly, with an individuality to each item produced that guarantees exclusivity, - a claim often made, yet rarely achieved by the
manufacturer of the mass-produced. With Glasspirations this is a product standard, no designs are duplicated, - a charming quality that applies to each and every piece in the range.
